Monday, March 20th

I got up early and had already downed two cups of tea as I waited for Jared to show up for our morning run. The sun was just beginning to peek over the hills as I stretched in front of the rec center. With the craziness of the past week, we had skipped our routine, and I was looking forward to getting back to it.

“Good morning, Miss Sunshine,” Jared said as he jogged up. “Ready to get after it?”

“Heck yeah, let’s do this.”

We took off at a nice pace and it felt good to feel the morning chill recede as I broke a sweat. We were getting lucky this spring, and the warmer temperatures were much welcomed. I was hoping the pleasant conditions would stay so we could get more done in time for our grand opening on April 1st.

After a good half-hour, Jared and I came to a panting halt back near my house. Opening the door, I let us in and went back to take a quick shower while Jared went through the notes I had accumulated on Sunday. I was feeling pretty confident about the theme for the last room, and I sang a little in the shower as I got ready to face the rest of the day.

After I dried off, I threw on a tee and shimmied into my yoga pants. I pumped my fist in front of my full-length mirror and headed back into the kitchen.

“Love what you’ve done with this idea, Shay. I’ll run home and get this programmed up with our software.”

“Thanks! I’m excited about this room. Well, I’m excited about all of them, truth be told,” I said, as I grabbed my notebook and stuffed it into my laptop bag. “I’ll get to work figuring out what props to add and put together a list. I should be able to find everything I need here in town.”

“Great! See you later, alligator,” Jared said, as he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and headed out to his place to start his computer geek magic.

I smiled as I left the house, determined to make the most of this day. Sunday had been relaxing, just me and my thoughts and time to brainstorm some ideas. Everything I needed to do was outlined for the day, but my mind kept drifting back to my not-date with Garrett. He seemed like an awesome guy, but I wasn’t sure if I was all-in just yet. Shaking my head, I told myself to focus as I ran up the steps to the escape room.

I let myself in and walked back to Room Two, hoping it wasn’t in too bad a shape after the investigation. I was prepared to have to do some massive cleaning, after remembering all the blood that had been spilled.

I opened the door to the room and was shocked to find it in pristine condition. On the bed, I saw a folded note with my name on it.

“Shay, sorry it took so long to get this room released for you.
